John Carpenter to host The People’s Network Showcase horror edition on El Rey Network El Rey Network announced today the launch of “The People’s Network Showcase: Horror Edition”, hosted by the master of horror himself John Carpenter, and featuring 10 short horror films submitted by rising independent filmmakers. The showcase will debut on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at 8pm ET, with an encore airing at 10pm ET. It will air as part of El Rey’s month long celebration of Horror, a program they’re dubbing “Blood, Sweat and Fears.” “When I started El Rey I wanted the network to provide a new pipeline for creators. My roots are in independent filmmaking and I believe in providing opportunities to people working outside of the studio system,” said El Rey Network founder and Chairman Robert Rodriguez. “We’ve discovered these terrific short films by very talented makers and with this on-air special hosted by my friend John Carpenter, we can help get them noticed.” “Whether for digital or linear, programming is no longer dictated from the top down.
