Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly introduced an executive order on Friday, mandating most people in the state to wear face masks to protect against the coronavirus. That same day, local newspaper The Anderson County Review published a cartoon depicting Kelly in a mask emblazoned with a Star of David, before a scene appearing to show Jewish people being deported to Nazi concentration camps. The paper's owner Dane Hicks is the chairman of the Anderson County Republican Party. Despite widespread criticism of the image, Hicks refused to apologize and called Kelly's actions "totalitarian." Mask-wearing has become politically divisive.
