TOPEKA | Kansas Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh will leave office a year early to take a private-sector job, giving Democrats a possible leg up ahead of November’s election. Thornburgh, a Republican, announced Monday that he’ll resign next week to become senior vice president for sales and marketing at Olathe-based NIC, a company that provides online services to governments.
