ORONO — University of Maine professor of oceanography Emmanuel Boss, an internationally recognized researcher in ocean biogeochemistry and phytoplankton ecology, has been selected as a Fellow of The Oceanography Society.
Boss was cited for his “contributions to and his leadership in ocean optics and its use in mapping biogeochemical processes in the ocean, for his inspirational teaching, and for his unwavering commitment to service and mentoring of young scientists.”
The society’s Fellows program recognizes individuals who have attained eminence in oceanography through their outstanding contributions to the field of oceanography or its applications during a substantial period of years.
Boss, who joined the UMaine community in 2002, directs the Maine In-situ Sound & Color Lab in the School of Marine Sciences.
A Woolwich woman was killed Friday evening when she was hit by a car in Dresden. Eva Russell-Edmonds, 40, was walking on Middle Road, near the intersection with Indian Road, about 5:10 p.m. when she was hit by a 2010 Honda CRV driven by 44-year-old Matthew Larochelle of Richmond, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Larochelle was not able to see Russell-Edmonds before he struck her, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies had been in the area investigating a complaint about a pedestrian walking on Middle Road earlier that day.
Speed and alcohol aren’t considered factors.
BIDDEFORD — Jasmine Bouchard, a resident of South Thomaston and student at the University of New England, was named to the university’s dean’s list for the fall 2020 semester. She is the daughter of Janet and Randy Bouchard of South Thomaston — they are so proud of her. Bouchard has been on the dean’s list all three semesters she has been at UNE.
