An oil laden, 400-foot-long container ship, en route from Everett, Wash., to Russia, is adrift in gale winds and high waves about 12 miles off Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands) in British Columbia, with a Canada Coast Guard cutter and tug headed for the scene. “We’re carefully monitoring the situation off Haidai Gwaii and actively supporting the federal response,” tweeted B.C.
