Loophole Helps Convict Get New Murder Trial

A man convicted of first-degree murder will get a new trial because authorities illegally taped a conversation between him and an informant — exposing a gaping hole in state law that has a district attorney pleading with the Legislature to make changes.“Does our Legislature need any more proof that Massachusetts’ wiretap statute needs to be updated?” said Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter in a statement.
