How else to explain "Magic Mike XXL?" This sequel goes beyond disappointment into a sublime realm of embarrassment: The first and last shots of the film are close-ups of Tatum, who has a face that seems to mean something - strength, humor, instinctive integrity. Not in a romantic comedy, not in an action film and certainly not in a Henry James adaptation. Though the first film was based around a lone strip club in Tampa, Fla., "Magic Mike XXL" is a road movie, in which Mike (Tatum) joins the boys for one last fling at an annual strippers convention. Mike decides to visit an ex-girlfriend named Rome, and it turns out that Rome (Jada Pinkett Smith) owns an enormous private club, in which women pay a monthly fee to be with male strippers performing in every room. Pinkett Smith becomes emcee for the guys, and she's a bad replacement for Matthew McConaughey, who offered the ladies in his club a guilty pleasure.
