Maine Man Buys Corvette, Crashes It, Is Charged With Drunken Driving

ATHENS — A man who bought a Chevrolet Corvette on Monday crashed the car that evening in an alleged drunken driving crash on Hartland Road, police said. Robert Smith, 71, of the coastal Hancock County town of Brooklin, is charged with operating under the influence and operating without a license in connection with the crash, according to Chief Deputy James Ross, of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office was called to a single-vehicle rollover crash that trapped the driver around 10 p.m.
