WASHINGTON -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel has no plans to push for the legalization of same-sex marriage, despite the overwhelming support of a marriage equality referendum in Ireland last week. Germany has had civil partnerships for same-sex couples since 2001, but it remains one of the only countries in Western Europe where gays and lesbians cannot legally wed. On Wednesday, Merkel's coalition agreed to make what Reuters called "small changes" to the civil partnerships rules.
