Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said he wants to focus on public safety and jobs as he laid out his proposal for an $874 million city budget Thursday. The proposal — up from a $849 million budget for the current year — includes a $623 million general fund budget, of which nearly 53 percent is put toward public safety. That funds 145 Louisville Metro Police Department recruits and 43 Louisville Fire Department recruits.
