The NCAA’s Board of Governors voted Wednesday to add anti-discrimination laws to its list of criteria for vetting host cities for “events in all divisions — from the Men’s and Women’s Final Fours to educational events such as leadership development conferences,” according to a news release.
The announcement, made at the board’s quarterly meeting in Indianapolis, is an apparent response, in part, to the so-called “bathroom bill” recently passed in North Carolina that restricts bathroom use to one’s biological gender, seen as explicitly discriminatory of the transgender community.
“The board’s decision follows the recent actions of legislatures in several states, which have passed laws allowing residents to refuse to provide services to some people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity,” the NCAA statement reads.
A substitute art teacher at Harper Creek Middle School in Battle Creek, Michigan, was asked not to return after she used the word “vagina” in a “productive” discussion about Georgia O’Keeffe’s famous “Cow’s Skull” painting, according to a local Fox affiliate.
“I even considered using a euphemism during the lesson,” said Allison Wint, 24.
Ted Cruz’s selection of Carly Fiorina as his running mate was a rushed and haphazard decision forced by political necessity. That much should be obvious to anyone with even limited observational capacities, but if you’re searching for still more evidence that Fiorina’s rollout as Cruz’s VP was initiated without proper consideration or preparation, look no further than Fiorina’s first round of interviews as a vice presidential candidate and he absolutely awful explanations for her past criticisms of Ted Cruz.
Fiorina spoke to the grinning mollusks of “Fox & Friends” Thursday morning where she was confronted with a video clip of an appearance she made on CNN back when she was still running for president herself.
Bill Maher thinks Donald Trump has no chance of winning a general election, but the former host of “Politically Incorrect” certainly understands why the blustery billionaire(?) is poised to become the most popular Republican presidential candidate in modern history.
“I think the American people are fed up in a lot of ways, many of them justifiably, and they are playing a game of chicken,” Maher told Variety in a delightful new interview.
Prince’s death has lent itself to all kinds of rumors and conspiracy theories. Given how eccentric the musician was, and the mysterious conditions of his passing, that was probably inevitable. For a man who was famously careful with his health, who appeared in his live performances to be the picture of vitality, and who supposedly avoided drugs, his sudden death is very hard to figure out.
And the latest rumors that Prince may have succumbed to an overdose of opioid painkillers, or to a combination of opioids with other drugs, have acquired momentum.
A YouTube video posted by Alexis Bloomer in which she extolled the virtues of Tim Tebow and saying “No Ma’am” and “Yes Sir” has apparently been viewed over 40 million times, and the folks at Fox & Friends couldn’t have been happier.
Co-host Ainsley Earhardt asked Bloomer “why you are sending this message to your generation,” to which she replied, with full-on false modesty, that she was excoriating her peers for things she sometimes does herself.
“I saw an elderly man walking into a post office,” Bloomer said, “and these two boys ran past him, and it really opened my eyes, because I was always taught that you always open the door for [the elderly].”
“You take the time to make them feel special,” she said, “it shouldn’t have gone viral, because it should just be expected.”
“Everything that used to be frowned upon is now celebrated,” Bloomer concluded.
“This was not scripted?” Earhardt asked.
