There was a press screening last Friday and word got out that after the movie was over, those in attendance gave the movie a standing ovation. While standing ovations are not uncommon after screenings, especially as a courtesy to the filmmakers for their work on the final film of a beloved franchise, it was the reaction to the movie that was noteworthy.

There was a press screening for The Dark Knight Rises earlier today and, according to reports, those in attendance were giving the movie a standing ovation when it was over. Standing ovations are not unusual in screenings, especially for a movie franchise as beloved as the Christopher Nolan era Batman movies. It is given as a sign of respect to the filmmakers, and if anyone has the respect of the critics, it's Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale.

 

‘THE AVENGERS’ becomes the biggest superhero film of all time

“The Dark Knight Rises” may be on the horizon, but Disney/Marvel’s “The Avengers” can now look at “The Dark Knight” in the rear-view mirror. “The Avengers” grossed $20.3-million this weekend to lift its total domestic take to $552.7-million — rocketing it past Warner Bros./DC’s ”The Dark Knight” ($533.3-million) for third all-time in the record books. The Marvel-superheroes-assembled blockbuster is now the most successful superhero film ever.

“Dark Knight Rises” enthusiasts, start your engines. Three camouflaged Batmobile Tumblers drove through the streets of Pittsburgh over the weekend, where “The Dark Knight Rises” is filming. In case you are a non-nerd, the “Tumbler” is a military vehicle modified for the Caped Crusader by Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman) in 2005’s “Batman Begins.”

Here's some irony: "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2," took down "The Dark Knight" for the biggest opening weekend in box office history, but before that film could play in theaters, moviegoers were treated to the first trailer for the next Batman film, "The Dark Knight Rises," as if to say, don't worry, the caped crusader will be back.
