Box Office: 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon' has somewhat impressive $37.3 million opening day

"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" debuts to a somewhat impressive $37.3 million on Wednesday. It's only when you compare its opening day to the previous installment, "Revenge of the Fallen," that there is less enthusiasm for the opening.

'Transformers' revenues dip with $13.5M for No. 3

The giant "Transformers" robots have shrunk a bit in the early going at the box office....

'Super 8' rules Friday: $12.2M

'Super 8' rules Friday: $12.2M

On a scale of 10, Super 8 pretty much scored an eight by collecting $12.2 million on Friday, according to early estimates. (It also grossed $1 million on Thursday from Twitter-publicized screenings at 324 theaters.) The sci-fi adventure, directed by J.J. Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg, was never expected to leave the train station with huge numbers, with industry insiders predicting a $30 million opening. But Super 8 is now on track for a debut of about $34 million. The PG-13 movie will likely fall a bit short of the opening gross of the 2008 Abrams-produced monster flick Cloverfield, which gobbled up $40.1 million its first weekend. But for a $50 million film starring a mostly no-name cast, this is still a solid start.

Twentieth Century Fox's prequel X-Men: First Class grossed $21 million in its Friday debut at the domestic box office, and is on track to meet expectations and earn $55 million for the weekend.

Senh: I was expecting it to do a little bit better - at least beat or come close to Wolverine's $85M.

The bachelor party sequel is well on the way to a big, big weekend while "Kung Fu Panda 2" doesn't put up a fight yet. "Hangover Part II," an even raunchier follow-up to 2009's surprise comedy hit, took in $31.7 million on its first day in theaters in the U.S. and Canada on Thursday, including $10.4 million from late night screenings just after midnight.

'Vampires Suck' opening tops boxoffice

'Vampires Suck' opening tops boxoffice

The parody movie "Vampires Suck," the Regency production which Fox opened wide on Wednesday, shot to the top of the day's boxoffice chart, where it commanded the No. 1 spot for the day.

Senh: I hate these movies. They need to stop. People need to stop watching them. Since it only made $4M on Wednesday, beating the week old "The Expendables" by just $1M, it probably won't stand a chance on being number one this weekend. Good thing.

After earning an impressive $16.4 million domestically on Monday, James Cameron's Avatar added another $16.1 million on Tuesday! That's the second-highest number for a non-opening film ever (behind The Dark Knight 's $20.9 million) and third-biggest Tuesday of all-time, trailing only The Dark Knight and Transformers , which opened on a Tuesday in 2007 and earned $27.9 million.
