Another Coach Swatted: Denver Nuggets Fire Coach Brian Shaw

The Denver Nuggets have fired coach Brian Shaw after 1½ seasons.

Senh: The triangle offense takes another hit. Derek Fisher couldn't get it to work for the New York Knicks. Brian Shaw, with a season and a half under his belt, fared just as poorly. One could make the case that New York didn't have the talent, outside of Carmelo Anthony, to make it work, but Shaw did. The Nuggets, under former coach George Karl, won 57 games before Shaw took over. The players were the same before the recent trades. So far, it seems, only Phil Jackson can make the triangle offense work.

Mike D'Antoni plans to coach Lakers on Sunday

Just finished interviewing new Lakers Coach Mike D’Antoni by telephone, and how’s that for a fine start in town — he's talking to Page 2.

Why Lakers' hiring of Mike D'Antoni is bad, in 7 seconds or less

When Jim Buss and Lakers management fired Mike Brown as coach, they should have had a deal already in place with Phil Jackson. The current roster is too old for D'Antoni's up-tempo game... A host of challenges confront Mark Thompson as he officially takes over as chief executive of New York Times Co, from making the company less dependent on advertising to trimming costs to figuring out what to do with its pile of cash.

The Lakers Change Direction and Hire Mike D’Antoni as Coach

Mike D'Antoni

In a stunning reversal, the Los Angeles Lakers hired Mike D’Antoni late Sunday night, spurning Phil Jackson, whose contract demands were apparently too steep. D’Antoni will sign a four-year deal worth $12 million, according to reports. His debut on the Lakers bench could be delayed a few weeks while he recovers from knee-replacement surgery.

Senh: So much for the Lakers saying that they're 95% sure Phil Jackson will return as their coach. Mike D'Antoni will be great for Steve Nash. The only problem is can he get an old Lakers squad to run and gun.

Lakers say they're 95% sure Phil Jackson will return as coach

Phil Jackson

The team plans on meeting with its former coach to see if he is ready to return for a third tour of duty. The Lakers are moving quickly toward hiring Phil Jackson as their next coach, with one person in the organization calling it a "95%" chance he will return for a third tour with the team.

Lakers lose their cool with the firing of Mike Brown

This fall the Lakers began training camp soaring like the smartest and coolest organization in the NBA. Five regular-season games later, they have collapsed into a puddle of utter and senseless panic. They have fired coach Mike Brown in a move that reeks of poor timing, poor vision and poor leadership in a front office that was once a bastion of continuity and calm.
