Players, owners eager to end the lockout in the next few days; talks resume Friday

NBA owners and players called it an early night Thursday, with both pointing toward Friday as a decisive day for big moves to end the 119-day lockout. Or not. The NBA will on Tuesday announce that at least two more weeks of the season will be canceled, after labor talks broke down last week, the New York Daily News reported, citing a source. NBA commissioner David Stern already canceled the first two weeks of the season, which was scheduled to begin Nov. 1, and that is now expected to be extended through Nov. 28, accounting for 102 more games.

HBT: Italian team says it has reached deal with Kobe

The Italian League where Kobe Bryant is close to playing is not quite like the NBA in a lot of ways. One is the scheduling — as in it’s not set yet. The league is set to tip-off Oct. 9 but the schedule is still being reworked because Venezia was just being added as the league’s 17th team.

Person familiar with plans: NBA to cancel training camps, some preseason games as talks stall

No labor deal, no training camps and no telling what else the NBA could lose. The league will cancel training camps and some exhibition games Friday after failing to reach a new collective bargaining agreement with its players, a person with knowledge of the plans told The Associated Press on Thursday on condition of anonymity because the league had yet to announce its plans.
