The 2010 Independent Spirit Awards ceremony unfolded last night in Los Angeles. With the Academy Awards closer to "hours" than "days" away, the stars came out while fans of film watched for any hint of what is to come on Sunday night during what is the biggest awards show of the season.

The Screen Actors Guild announced it nominations for the 16th annual SAG Awards Thursday, with "Precious" and "Up in the Air" earning three nominations each.

The dramas "Precious" and "The Hurt Locker," the comedies "Up in the Air" and "The Hangover" and the animated tales "Up" and "Coraline" are among the top-10 movies of the year chosen by the American Film Institute.

The specialty box office roared to life as Lionsgate's "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire" opened to $1.8 million from 18 locations for a record-breaking $100,000 per location average.

Lee Daniels' inner-city drama, "Precious, Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire," nabbed the 34th Toronto Film Festival's People's Choice prize on Saturday.
