TV fees boost Time Warner profits

Time Magazine

Rising TV subscription fees plumped up profits at Time Warner. The media and entertainment giant said profits in the last three months of 2012 rose 51% from a year ago to $1.2bn (£750m), despite no change in revenues. TV subscription income rose 7%, as cable and satellite operators paid more to carry channels such as CNN and TNT.

'Dallas' premiere strikes it rich for TNT

The premiere of "Dallas" — TNT's reboot of the classic series — averaged 6.8 million viewers on Wednesday, making it the No. 1 scripted series premiere on all of cable so far this year.

TNT’s ‘Dallas’: A satisfying roll in the sentimental hay

They’ve learned nothing. It’s the 21st century, filmed in rich “Friday Night Lights” hues of dappled sunbeams, and Bobby Ewing still leads with his heart, gullible as ever. Sue Ellen Ewing, the ex-wife triumphant, never stopped looking for the ladder’s next rung, campaigning now to become Texas’ next governor. That snake J.R.

'Dallas' Remake to Air on TNT

Turner Broadcasting told advertisers at the annual "upfront" presentation that it plans to add 14 new original shows to its TNT and TBS cable networks. They include a remake of "Dallas," with Larry Hagman reprising his role as J.R. Ewing.

TV Ratings: Oscars Posterized NBA All-Stars

The Artist Picks Up Best Picture at the Oscars

Because of the shorten NBA season caused by the lockout, this is the first time the telecast of the NBA All-Star game went head-to-head with the 84th Academy Awards. I thought the basketball game would get crushed, even with Linsanity in attendance - technically, he was only in the Rising Stars Challenge which took place on Friday.

Who’s bright idea was it to go head-to-head with one of the biggest tv events of the year? Couldn’t the NBA have done it the week before or after the Oscars? Maybe TNT, which televised the game, thought it’s good counter-programming.

2011 Basic Cable Ratings: USA Still On Top, History & FX Up, Nick At Nite & TBS Down

There was little change at the top of the primetime basic cable rankings for 2011, with USA finishing the year as No.1 in total viewers and adults 18-49 for a sixth consecutive time on the strength of its original series. The cable network added another hit to its original slate this year with rookie Suits. There was one change each in the Top 5 among total viewers and 18-49 from 2010. History broke into the Top 5 among total viewers after doing the same among adults 18-49 last year, while siblings TNT and TBS swapped places in the top 18-49 echelon. Cable Provider Offers Bare-Bones TV Package

Time Warner Cable is experimenting with a lower-priced cable-TV package that excludes ESPN, Comedy Central, TNT and many other channels.

Senh: Sounds good to me. I don't only need a small selection of the hundreds of channels that cable companies offer.

Ray Romano returns with 'Men of a Certain Age'

Ray Romano returns with 'Men of a Certain Age'

Sure, everyone loved 'Raymond.' But the actor-comedian worries: Will there be the same kind of love for his new TNT series about three middle-age guys?

Those who subscribe to the familiar adage "Dying is easy, comedy is hard" have not been hanging around lately with Ray Romano. The star and inspiration behind the hit family comedy "Everybody Loves Raymond" has discovered something far more difficult than comedy or sustaining a hit network sitcom.

TNT picks up 'Southland'

John Wells' gritty cop drama, unceremoniously canceled by NBC before its second season premiere, has been picked up by cable network TNT as many a TV insider expected.
