U.N. overwhelmingly approves first-ever global arms trade treaty

The 193-nation U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday overwhelmingly approved the first-ever treaty on global arms trade that seeks to regulate the $70 billion international trade in conventional arms ranging from light weapons to battle tanks and warships.

 

Panetta calls for deep U.S.-India defense ties, more arms trade

The Defense Secretary Leon Panetta promised on Wednesday to let India buy America's best weapons technology and jointly produce and develop equipment in a bid to increase trade with the world's top arms importer.

Senh: India's the world's top weapons importer. They do have to worry about Pakistan and China.

 

China "indignant" on U.S. arms sales to Taiwan

China

China has said it will impose unspecified sanctions on U.S. firms selling weapons to Taiwan in retaliation for the U.S. announcement that it planned to sell $6.4 billion of arms to Taiwan, which Beijing considers a breakaway province.

The move is sure to enrage China and could possibly complicate the Obama administration’s push to get Beijing’s cooperation on Iran.
