The city of Ahvaz features nine crossings over the Karun River, making it the city with the most bridges in the Middle East. While all the bridges connect the eastern and western parts of the town, each one has a unique architectural style. The oldest bridge in Ahvaz is the Pol-e-Siah, or Black Bridge, named for the black colour of its foundation.
