The Chukchi Peninsula (also Chukotka Peninsula or Chukotski Peninsula; Russian: Чуко́тский полуо́стров, Chukotskiy poluostrov, short form Russian: Чуко́тка, Chukotka ), at about 66° N 172° W, is the easternmost peninsula of Asia. Its eastern end is at Cape Dezhnev near the village of Uelen.

The Chukchi can be divided into two clearly distinct groups: the inland Chukchi, who herd reindeer and refer to themselves as "Chavchu" (rich in reindeer), and the coastal Chukchi, also known as "An'kalyn" (coastal dwellers), who primarily depend on sea animal hunting.
CHUKCHI | Facts and Details
Chukchi technically refers to people who herded reindeer while Eskimos refers to those who hunt. There are around 15,000 Chukchi. They live mostly on the Chukotka peninsula, which is only 55 miles from Alaska. Some also live in the Lower Kolyma District of the Yakut Republic and in the north of Koryak Autonomous District.
