What Is Deuterium? Facts and Uses - Science Notes and Projects
The deuterium nucleus is called a deuteron or deuton. Deuterium is one of only five stable isotopes that has both an odd number of protons and an odd number of neutrons. Usually, doubly-odd atoms are unstable and undergo via beta decay. Deuterium exists on other planets within the solar system and within other stars.
What is Deuterium? | IAEA - International Atomic Energy Agency
Deuterium is a stable isotope of hydrogen, which, unlike “normal” hydrogen atoms, or protium, also contains a neutron. The isotope deuterium has one proton, one neutron and one electron. One out of 6420 hydrogen atoms, on average, is a deuterium isotope.
Deuterium - Wikipedia
Deuterium (or hydrogen-2, symbol 2. H. or D, also known as heavy hydrogen) is one of two stable isotopes of hydrogen (the other being protium, or hydrogen-1). The nucleus of a deuterium atom, called a deuteron, contains one proton and one neutron, whereas the far more common protium has no neutrons in the nucleus.
What Is Deuterium? - Deuterium Facts - ThoughtCo
Deuterium is one of the isotopes of hydrogen. It has one proton and one neutron . In contrast, the most common isotope of hydrogen, protium, has one proton and no neutrons. Because deuterium contains a neutron, it is more massive or heavier than protium, so it is sometimes called heavy hydrogen.
