Lytro. Lytro was a US company based in Palo Alto, which launched the world’s first consumer LightField camera in 2011. The second generation camera, the Lytro Illum, was released in 2014. The company subsequently shifted their focus from consumer electronics to the high-end Virtual Reality and Movie sector, before closing down in 2018.

Lytro, Inc. was an American company founded in 2006 by Ren Ng which developed some of the first commercially available light-field cameras. Lytro began shipping its first generation pocket-sized camera, capable of refocusing images after being taken, in 8 GB and 16 GB versions on February 29, 2012.
