KINGSPORT — In a stunning reversal of fortune, Sullivan North’s football scored 28 points in the final seven minutes of the game Friday night to rally for a 35-21 win over visiting Volunteer.The Falcons (1-1) opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 70-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Luke Dorton to Jay Sandine.Just minutes later, North’s Christian Arnold tied the game at 7 with his 5-yard TD run.Dorton ran it in from 6 yards out to stake Volunteer to a 14-7 lead at the half.The Falcons seemingly had the game in hand when Dylan Kenkel ran it in for a TD that put them up 21-7 with 9:46 remaining in the game.That’s when the Golden Raiders unleashed their scoring barrage.North quarterback Zack Byrns hit Connor Copas for a touchdown pass that narrowed the deficit to 21-14 with 6:25 left to play.A second Byrns TD toss, to Trey Burke with 3:56 to go, tied it at 21.Arnold gave North (2-0) its first lead of the game, 28-21, when he scored with 54 seconds left before Darius Peterson sealed the deal with his interception return for a touchdown with just 25 seconds showing on the clock.Arnold rushed for 139 yards on 17 carries, and Byrns was 6-of-12 passing for 77 yards and the two TDs.Copas piled up 14 tackles to lead the Raiders’ defense and teammate Mikey de Briel added 11 tackles.North is at Happy Valley this Friday while Volunteer hosts Greeneville.
