Okc Streetcar Barn Gets Go-ahead

By William Crum Staff Writer wcrum@oklahoman.comConstruction is expected to begin in August on the $5.4 million maintenance facility for the MAPS 3 downtown streetcars. The 22,400-square-foot building is designed to provide work and garage space for the city's six streetcars. It could be expanded to accommodate up to six more of the multimillion-dollar vehicles. The MAPS 3 Citizens Advisory Board recommended Thursday that the city council give the final OK to plans for structure. It will be at 406 SW 7 St., on the corner of Hudson Avenue and next to Interstate 40. The exterior finish will include limestone from the same quarry that supplied limestone for the historic Union Station nearby. Architect Robert Manley said a favorable base bid would allow designers to add covered outdoor storage track, along with air-conditioning in the shop and windows to let daylight into the maintenance bays. Construction bids will be due July 6, and the city council could award the contract in early August. The building could be ready for use by August 2017.Read more on NewsOK.com
