Mary Fallin is expected to sign Friday a precedent-setting compact with the Cherokee Nation that will allow its tribal citizens to hunt and fish in the state for free. Cherokee Nation citizens will not have to buy a state hunting and fishing license and each tribal member is expected to receive one free deer hunting license and one free turkey hunting license, under the terms of the compact, said Julie Hubbard, spokesperson for the Cherokee Nation. The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, however, is not expected to lose any revenue from the agreement, said Richard Hatcher, the agency’s director. The Cherokee Nation will partially reimburse the agency for the loss of revenue from the free hunting and fishing licenses, he said. “I don’t think it’s going to cost us anything,” Hatcher said.Read more on NewsOK.com
