By Ruth Serven, For The OklahomanMOORE — Doug Dees and his home have been spared by four tornadoes, but only by a mile. “All I can say is, thank you, God, that you spared me, so I can help others,” he said. Dees, a pastor at First Baptist Church in Moore, and other volunteers worked Thursday to clear classrooms of desks, books and other supplies at Southgate Elementary School, which was damaged in Wednesday’s storms. The team moved the items to Emmaus Baptist Church, where Southgate students will finish the school year. Dees volunteered after the May 3, 1999, storms in Moore and after an EF5 tornado struck the city on May 20, 2013. The memories of those disasters are still fresh in many minds, and volunteers from religious organizations showed up to help once again. “People are surprisingly encouraged just seeing the response of volunteers who want to help,” said the Rev.Read more on NewsOK.com
