Ornate, Wrought-iron Fence Stolen From 138-year-old Grave In Colorado Springs

A grave from 1879, situated in the pioneer section of Colorado Springs' oldest continuously-operating cemetery, is missing its ornate, wrought-iron fence. The headstone was toppled on its side, and its fence stolen, but the Evergreen Cemetery Benevolent Society hopes the fence can be found. "It's a piece of history that is gone, and goodness knows where," said Dianne Hartshorn, the society's director. The police have been contacted, she said, and security has been increased at the cemetery. "There's really, unfortunately, not a whole lot more the cemetery can do," Hartshorn said.
