Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan has decided to pull out from the nomination process to become full-time Defense Secretary amid news reports that he, his ex-wife and son were involved in domestic violence incidents in 2010 and 2011. “It is unfortunate that a painful and deeply personal family situation from long ago is being dredged up and painted in an incomplete and therefore misleading way in the course of this process,” Shanahan said in a statement.
