CULLOWHEE, N.C. — Before Saturday, Devontavius Payne had been more productive coming off the bench than starting for the East Tennessee State men’s basketball team. That all changed with one performance at the Ramsey Center. Payne, forced into a starting role because of a teammate’s illness, scored 22 points and scorched the nets from 3-point range for the Bucs, who got back on the winning track with a 72-61 Southern Conference victory over Western Carolina. “He’s been such a wonderful person to coach the entire two years,” ETSU coach Steve Forbes said.
