SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A plea deal will spare the life of a Utah dog ordered put to death after he bit a 12-year-old girl in a case that sparked the ire of the Humane Society of Utah. Owner Lindsy Bray says she agreed Thursday to pay a $145 fine and the city of Santaquin will drop a dog-attack charge that required her Australian Shepard Dexter to be put down. The Humane Society said it was wrong to order Dexter to death after his first offence, characterized as a minor bite that did not break the girl's skin. The organization and owner have been fighting back for over a year, and hope city council will revise the vicious-dog rule they call unfair and overly broad. City officials did not immediately return a call for comment.
