COLONIE — As the family of a woman struck and killed on Central Avenue this week mourned, police said they will step up their enforcement on the Capital Region's deadliest road. On Tuesday, she was struck as she crossed from the south side of Central Avenue at 7:17 a.m. Tuesday. A man was struck in killed in Schenectady, where the road becomes State Street, in January. Bryan Viggiani, state Department of Transportation spokesman, said a project to upgrade 75 signals along the road is almost done. A raised median has also been installed between Colonie Center and Northway Mall to stop people from crossing away from the signalized crosswalk there. Colonie police plans to ticket pedestrians and drivers this summer to again reinforce the message that everyone needs to be more careful, he said.
