BRUNSWICK | Karimah Elkins will serve 10 years in prison for throwing away the pistol her son, De’Marquise Elkins, used to shoot a 13-month-old baby to death nearly a year ago during a failed robbery attempt.
Superior Court Judge Stephen Kelley sentenced Karimah Elkins to the maximum and, because of her criminal history mostly of felony shoplifting, she will not be eligible for parole.
A 28-year-old man who was found in Puerto Rico in 2010 after shooting and killing a man in a Jacksonville nightclub was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday, according to the State Attorney’s Office.
In February 2009 Omar Santiago shot 26-year-old Jean Justo twice in the chest during an argument at Aqua Nightclub & Lounge at 1100 Beach Blvd., police said.
