HEMPSTEAD, Texas (AP) — The church of a Chicago-area woman found hanged inside a Texas jail cell earlier this week is planning a prayer walk Sunday in her honor as an investigation into her death continues. Authorities say Sandra Bland hanged herself with a plastic bag three days after being pulled over by police for a traffic violation and then arrested for allegedly kicking an officer during the stop, but friends and family have questioned that account. The 28-year-old black woman's death at the Waller County jail, about 60 miles northwest of Houston, comes amid increased national scrutiny of police after a series of high-profile cases in which blacks have been killed by officers. The Texas Department of Public Safety said the state trooper who pulled her over planned to give her a written warning but she became uncooperative and argumentative. [...] Bland had posted a video to her Facebook page in March, saying she was suffering from "a little bit of depression as well as PTSD," or post-traumatic stress disorder.
