A pair of bills seeking compensation for descendants of the 1920 Election Day race riot in Ocoee received favorable hearings from the state Senate Judiciary Committee this week. The bills’ sponsor, state Sen. Randolph Bracy, D-Ocoee, compared his proposals to one of the most controversial bills in Florida history, a $2.1 million payment to survivors and descendants of racial violence in Rosewood.
