How are charter schools doing compared to public schools?
Among wonks, the conventional wisdom has congealed: on average, not much better.
This is technically true, but as the economic analyst Adam Ozimek points out, this is misleading, as averages so often are.

Finally!
To describe the village of Nagoro, Japan, as "tiny" would be an overstatement. The hamlet in the southern part of the country boasts only 35 aging villagers. But one resident has been steadily bolstering this fading population with a dedicated, if lethargic, group of bystanders.
Tsukimi Ayano arranges a scarecrow at a bus stop, in the mountain village of Nagoro.
