It seems that knowing how to effectively communicate in front of a group of people never seems to go out of style.
Doug Weeks, of Altus, is a district director of Toastmasters and estimates the state has between 1,700 and 1,800 members, including 45 clubs in the metro area.
"Toastmasters is great for those who are into self-improvement," he said.
A member of the international board of directors, David McCallister, of Arlington, Texas, was in the metro area recently to give recognition to two groups that have embraced the goals of improving communication, public speaking and leadership.
One presentation was made at Oklahoma City's AAA auto club.
