In light of the weakest quarterly job growth in two years, there is one sector shining brighter than most. In the last 12 months, restaurant employment has risen by 2.7 percent, more than double the 1.3 percent increase in the total U.S. employment, according to the National Restaurant Association. Restaurants have added more than 115,000 net new positions in the first half of 2012, and have added nearly 600,000 jobs since March 2010.
