PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Rhode Island Foundation has awarded eight nonprofit organizations serving the state's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer communities more than $50,000 in grants. The philanthropic organization says the money will fund services including transgender care and intimate partner violence prevention. The grants are provided through the organization's Equity Action Fund, which is guided by a volunteer advisory committee. Grant recipients include Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders (GLAD), Thundermist Health Center and Youth Pride.
