American Propane owner Jim Grigsby was a proud papa as he watched Paul Schatte, David and Levi Bouska, and Russ Garrett regale audiences with stories from the competition circuit and tips from the pits before sharing hearty portions of chicken, pork and beef compelled to yield the best of their flavors by low heat and pervasive wood-derived smoke. As for me, I kept quiet and provided some new turns on familiar sides and a dessert in honor of one of Oklahoma City's most celebrated barbecue joints with help from my son.
