We know we’re in trouble when a play about Nazism feels newly relevant. Roger Grunwald wrote “The Obligation,” he says in a statement, “to make a connection between the prejudice and hatred” that one of his characters, a Holocaust survivor, experiences and “what is happening now in our politically fractured world.” Grunwald, a San Francisco native, is himself the son of a Holocaust survivor.
