California had the gold rush in 1849. Colorado saw a green rush following the legalization of marijuana in 2014. Now some Front Range businesses are hoping to cash in on a growing marketplace: the barn rush. Longmont’s Authentic Barnwood is the latest entry into the fray, hoping to fill some unmet demand for reclaimed materials now trending with home and commercial decorators. Co-founder Jay Breitlow was inspired to start the business when he shelled out $300 on salvaged barn wood for his Longmont chiropractic office — a needless expense, as his paternal grandfather’s Wisconsin dairy barn was in the process of being taken down and sold for lumber. Breitlow went into business with one of his patients, area contractor Dan Shetter.
