San Mateo Bridge Reopened

Just in time for Memorial Day vacationers’ return, the San Mateo bridge reopened Monday after a second — and final— weekend of maintenance and repairs. Crews performed not just routine maintenance, but also resurfaced the roadway and applied a protective coating to the pavement and the supporting deck structure of the seven-mile bridge that spans San Francisco Bay between San Mateo to the west and Hayward to the east. Traffic jams clogged Bay Area roadways for the second weekend this month with the closure of the bridge that carries more than 90,000 cars a day.
