How many times have you gone to a fundraising dinner only to find pork and beans, spaghetti and meatballs, and liver and onions as your menu choices? Probably never. But there’s a first time for everything, and if you were among those lucky enough to have secured a ticket for the 2017 Invest In Kids Gala, that is what you ate. Names are deceiving, though, because this iteration of pork and beans wasn’t something from a can, and the liver and onions didn’t even come close to what moms from the 1950s fried up on the stove. As he has in years past, Jensen Cummings rounded up a host of his fellow chefs to produce a strolling dinner that was anything but ordinary. Pork and beans was El Five’s warm fava bean salad with dry-cured pork loin served tapas-style on grilled bread with tomato.
