With so many festivals taking over Edinburgh in August - from the pot-luck buzz and informality of the Fringe to the serious-minded ideas factory of the Edinburgh International Book Festival; from the contemplation and activism of the Just Festival of Peace and Spirituality through to the hardcore arguments in the Festival of Politics; not to mention the pomp and ceremony of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo with the Castle as its historic backdrop - it’s vital to know which is which. Not least so that you’re clear on where you’re heading as you fight your way around town past street theatre, buskers, endless enthusiastic flyerers and vast crowds choking the city’s narrow streets as they take in Edinburgh’s breathtaking beauty alongside its festival frenzy.
