TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey's minimum wage would rise to $15 over eight years and employers who pay above the rate could qualify for a tax credit under a proposal unveiled Tuesday by Senate President Steve Sweeney. Prieto said he wants to see greater relief sooner for New Jersey residents earning the minimum wage and endorsed a $10.10 wage starting point, which President Barack Obama enacted as a floor for workers on new federal contracts. Sweeney said he is introducing the plan as a constitutional amendment because those measures can go on the ballot without the governor's approval, if they're advanced in two legislative sessions or pass with three-fifths support in a single year.
