Syfy is renewing its well-regarded time-travel drama "12 Monkeys" for a third season of ten episodes. That's down on the thirteen episode orders of the first two seasons, nevertheless the renewal is a vote of confidence by the network in the show which draws not only good critical reaction but solid DVR gains. Terry Matalas is showrunner on the series which, though initially based on the Terry Gilliam 1996 film of the same name, has branched into a more complicated and sci-fi heavy narrative that also adopts a more amusing tone. The quality surprised many in the first season, and the second has only seen it go up in estimation with the show nabbing some strong reviews. "12 Monkeys" was the first of Syfy's brand reinvention with a return to smart scripted traditional science-fiction fare.
