Actor Mel Gibson is speaking out for the first time since those profanity-laced audio recordings were released, saying that he regrets what he said to ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, and that his words don’t represent what he truly believes.

A sheriff's official says Mel Gibson has met with detectives to discuss his claims that his ex-girlfriend attempted to extort money from him. Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore says the interview occurred Sunday. He says detectives only spoke to the Academy Award-winner about his claims against ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva (gree-GOR'-yeh-vuh).

Mel Gibson's breakup with the woman he impregnated and left his wife of almost 30 years for just got nastier. Mel and Oksana Grigorieva split in April, six months after their daughter, Lucia, was born, and now Radar reports that on Wednesday he filed a restraining order against Oksana.

Gibson already has seven children with wife Robyn, which means the baby would be his eighth.

Oksana is also the mother of former "James Bond" star Timothy Dalton's son.
