Lions Gate acquires Summit Entertainment for $412.5 million

Bringing Hollywood's two biggest independent film studios and the blockbuster young adult franchises "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games" into one powerful entity, Lions Gate Entertainment has agreed to acquire Summit Entertainment for $412.5 million in cash and stock.

Summit Entertainment's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn--Part 1 had no trouble retaining the No. 1 crown, grossing $16.9 million for a domestic cume of $247.3 million. The fourth installment is still pacing slightly behind The Twilight Saga: New Moon, which opened over Thanksgiving in 2009. At the same point in its run New Moon had earned $255.4 million domestically.

The Breaking Dawn Director has yet to be officially announced, however Summit Entertainment has now confirmed that they are currently in negotiations with 'Dreamgirls' director Bill Condon . Condon won an Academy Award in 1999 for 'Gods and Monsters' in the Best Writing catagory.

 

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Trailer is Coming in March

Summit Entertainment announced today that the trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will hit theaters with the the studio's own Remember Me , which also stars Robert Pattinson, on March 12th. The trailer is expected to be released online earlier that week.

Summit Entertainment's sequel "New Moon" has set box office history in breaking all records for midnight runs, grossing a whopping $26.3 million as it unspooled in 3,514 theaters at 12:01 a.m. Friday.

Summit Entertainment will film The Twilight Saga: Eclipse from August 17th until October 31st at Vancouver Film Studios. David Slade ( 30 Days of Night ) will direct from a script by Melissa Rosenberg.
