Joss Whedon Wants Downey Jr. to Play Iron Man Forever; Talks About Thanos in 'The Avengers 2'

Robert Downey Jr. has been musing about stepping away from Iron Man and letting other actors take a crack at the character, but if Joss Whedon has any say in the matter, he would rather have Downey play Iron Man forever. "I want him [Downey Jr.] to play it forever," Whedon told Desde Hollywood (via Comingsoon). "The great thing is that he has a flying metal suit. So it's not like those Charles Bronson or Roger Moore movies where you're like 'Dude, you can barely stand.' He's got some fight in him. At the same time, if Robert decides to hang it up, he has a perfectly good excuse."

 

Downey hurt on 'Iron Man 3' set; filming on hold

Production on "Iron Man 3" is on hold after star Robert Downey Jr. hurt his foot during filming. Marvel Studios said Thursday that Downey was injured while performing a stunt and "there will be a short delay in production while he recuperates." The 47-year-old actor is shooting the third installment in the superhero franchise in North Carolina.

 

The Domestic Poster for Iron Man 2

Last week, we got the international poster for Iron Man 2 , and today MySpace has debuted this domestic poster for the sequel, hitting North American theaters on May 7. Directed by Jon Favreau, the film stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Garry Shandling, John Slattery, Kate Mara, Clark Gregg and Olivia Munn.

 

"Iron Man 2" Trailer

The trailer for the summer 2010 sequel to "Iron Man" is out. "Iron Man 2" reunites Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark with Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts. The film also adds Scarlett Johansson and Mickey Rourke and swaps in Don Cheadle for Terrence Howard. Like the first it is directed by Jon Favreau.

The movie is out May 7.

Rourke Not Crimson Dynamo in Iron Man 2 ?

In January when trade reports announced that Mickey Rourke was in talks to play a villain in Iron Man 2 , it was believed that he would take on the role of Crimson Dynamo. Robert Downey Jr. tells MTV that doesn't seem to be the case, however.
