The social news site Reddit is being hit with what the company called a “malicious” denial of service attack, first disclosed via its official Twitter account Friday. The company first disclosed that it was being targeted with an attack on Friday around 6:30 a.m. Eastern.

Betaworks’ News.me Shuts Down Its Apps, Team Heads Over To Digg

News.me, the social news service incubated at betaworks, announced today that it’s officially shutting down its iOS apps and removing them from the App Store. The company is also claiming that it’s yet another victim of Twitter’s latest API guidelines, and states that Twitter may have even viewed its service as a competitor. We might not go that far, but it makes for a good story.

 

Betaworks' Digg Relaunch Has One Fatal Mistake

Betaworks bought Digg, the website, for about half a million. It’s a complicated sale. Linkedin acquired the patents, and Washington Post got the talent (the engineers).

The first thing Betaworks did was relaunch the site on August 1st. I noticed because their RSS feeds stopped working on Wopular. They had rebuilt and redesigned the site from scratch in just six weeks.

Design-wise, it’s now a three-column site - like Wopular (and Pinterest) - with headlines and thumbnails spread within each column. It doesn’t look as organized as before when headlines only occupy one column.
